A neuropsychologist is a specialist psychologist, trained in understanding how the brain works and how it affects behaviour, thinking and personality. A neuropsychological assessment involves a range of tasks designed to test specific cognitive functions such as memory, attention, concentration, learning, planning and problem solving, spatial abilities, the ability to make decisions and carry them through. The assessment may take up to 3 hours in total with the neuropsychologist obtaining the background information, conducting the test and providing feedback. Acquired Brain Impairment Assessment Unit (ABIAU)The arbias ABIAU provides a neuropsychological assessment to help a person with ABI and those around them to make realistic plans for the future. The assessments are carried out by qualified neuropsychologists who are trained in understanding how the brain works and how it affects behaviour, thinking and personality. The assessment involves a range of tasks designed to test specific cognitive functions such as memory, attention/concentration, new learning, planning and problem solving, spatial abilities and the ability to make decisions and carry through with them.
