What will an assessment cost?

The Department of Human Services (DHS) funds arbias neuropsychological assessments for clients who live in the greater Melbourne metropolitan area (i.e. metro-DHS). The funding is for all referrals that are made primarily for clinical, diagnostic &/or client management purposes. Clients who are eligible for this DHS support will NOT be required to pay any fees for their assessment.

Adolescents aged between 12 and 17 years who reside in the Eastern Metropolitan DHS Region are also eligible for a funded (i.e. NO fee) neuropsychological assessment due to a dedicated funding arrangement between arbias and Eastern Metro-DHS.

arbias accepts referrals from ALL regions of Victoria. Non-metropolitan/rural referrals are seen through the Private Clinic (see below). Funding for these assessments can be requested from your regional DHS Intake Officer.

ABIAU Private Clinic

arbias also operates a Private Clinic for clients who are not eligible for a metro-DHS funded neuropsychological assessment. Private Clinic referrals should be made on the standard ABIAU referral form.

Clients who are seen through the Private Clinic include:

  • Cases where the report is primarily required for Medicolegal/court matters.
  • Assessments that are requested for vocational/work-related purposes (e.g. "please assess this man's capacity to return to work").
  • Assessments of a person's capacity to drive.
  • Referrals for clients who do not live in a metro-DHS region (please refer to the DHS website if you are uncertain of your region).
  • Adolescents aged 12 to 17 years who do not live in the Eastern Metro-DHS region.
