Whether it’s playing tennis, walks on the beach, joining a theatre
group or playing in a rock band, recreation is there for having fun,
good times and making friends. There’s nothing like the great feeling
of physical achievement, well-being and satisfaction recreation can
give you. But most of all, it’s simply a great way to feel good, build
your self-esteem and meet new people. The arbias Lifestyle Support staff can get you more actively involved in all kinds of recreational experiences. The Recreation Team has workers with particular expertise in:
We can support you in seeking opportunities with places and activities in your local area with the people you chose to meet and spend time with. Our recreation service currently provides support during the weekdays however depending on individual events and demand; the staff can provide support to you on evenings and weekends. In addition to our recreation activities, arbias have a number of exciting projects that run each year. These projects are in addition to the services we provide and are attended by people who often use other areas of our Lifestyle Support Service. Funding is provided by a range of philanthropic organisations and local councils to support the various projects provided each year. A group (known as SPARC Theatre) is a jointly funded project with the City of Port Phillip. Lead by experienced and energised theatre facilitators, the SPARC theatre group rehearses once a week in South Melbourne and has a major performance in October each year. All members of the group are involved in scriptwriting, choreography, set design and costume design. A Lifestyle Support Worker is available to assist theatre group in transport to and from their home. Link to short edit of theatre production 2006 The Deep End Band is run in conjunction with the City of Darebin. The band rehearses once a week at the Decibels Music Centre and has a range of professional music facilitators who support band members in acquiring the skills to run a band. Band members are provided support in instrument tuition, learning how to set up and maintain sound equipment and seeking gigs at various venues throughout the year. The band plays in many music festivals each year such as the “Where the Heart is…” Festival and “Go Live” gigs. A Lifestyle Support Worker is available to assist band members with transport to and from their home for rehearsals and performances.
