A Checklist - Are You At Risk?

To find out whether you or someone you know may be suffering from ARBI please complete the following checklist.
(Note: This checklist does not constitute a diagnostic instrument)

  1. Do you consume alcohol daily?
  2. Males: Have you consumed more than 6 standard drinks per day for longer than 10 years?
    Females: Have you consumed more than 3 standard drinks per day for longer than 10 years?
  3. Have you had periods of poor nutrition whilst drinking?

If you answered yes to questions 2 or 3 please proceed to the next section.

  1. Do you have difficulties in any of the following areas?
      • Solving problems
      • Not learning from mistakes
      • Short term memory
      • Learning new information
      • Planning and organising
      • Seeing the consequences of your behaviour
      • Being flexible in your thinking
      • Frustration with thinking tasks
      • Adapting to change in behaviour patterns and routines

If you answered yes to any item in question 4 please talk to your doctor or health professional.

Alcohol Related Brain Damage Screening Tool for Health Practitioners

Early screening for Alcohol and other drug related brain impairment by health practitioners is essential. The arbias screening checklist is not a diagnostic instrument. It does however, assist health practitioners to identify the early onset of brain impairment and refer people at risk for a full neuropsychological assessment.
